I use to be great at blogging about all the books I read. But this year, I seem to be lacking. Time to catch up!
I have been a huge Charley fan from Day 1. What's not to like about her? She's a spunky Grim Reaper/Private Investigator who learns she's also a God and is married to the Devil's son. Follow that?
This time around, Charley helps out Amber who is being stalked. She also gets hired by Reyes' adoptive brother..... is he considered a brother when the people who kidnapped Reyes then gave him away then go and kidnap another child? SMH It sounds hard to understand, but it's really easy to follow. :)
Charley also learns some new bad-ass powers she possesses. Told ya she was cool.
Often with series, after awhile, you can get bored of them, or you can start predicting the events. Not here. The book was exciting from start to finish.

The Curse of Tenth Grave - Darynda Jones
Our favourite Grimm Reaper/Private Investigator is back. And by back, I mean Charley has regained her memory and is back home with her loved ones. And her not so loved ones.
Charley is back at work, aiding a man wrongfully arrested for murder. She's out to find out the reason behind a "curse" that has children falling ill and dying at an orphanage. She's plotting a way to get Beep back. She's trying to figure out how to trap not one, but three malevolent god.
Yes, our dear Charley is back. And better than ever!

The Dirt on Ninth Grave - Darynda Jones
Welcome to Sleepy Hollow, New York, where Janey Doer (because Jane Doe is too boring) lives and works as a waitress. She has no memory of who she is or where she came from.
Her best friend, Cookie, is also new there, having recently moved with her husband Robert. Garrett is a wonderful customer that comes into the diner every single day. Reyes is beyond gorgeous and Janey is immediately attracted to him.
But with no memory, Janey isn't away that she's really Charley and these are all her dearest friends, keeping watch over her.
And since she doesn't know who she is, she has no idea why she sees dead people. Or how she can read the emotions of others. But even with her memory loss, she will still go out of her way to help those in need, even if it means nearly getting killed herself.
I loved how, even though she was not Charley, she still was Charley. She has evil demons after her (but has no idea why). She gets herself in all kinds of trouble trying to help a family. She deals with evil baby killing ghosts, and even tries to play matchmaker.
I really wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but Darynda Jones does not let you down.

Brighter Than the Sun - Darynda Jones
I'm a huge Charley Davidson fan. I mean, seriously, what's not to like about this girl. She's a PI, she names her body parts, she's strong-willed and feisty, and, let's not forget, she's the Grimm Reaper!
For eight books, I've followed her and her antics. And while I love her, I also love Reyes. You know, the son of Satan.
So then here comes Brighter Than the Sun. This is Reyes' story. According to Goodreads, it's book 8.5 of the series. I'm thinking it fits in better after book 1. But does it really matter?
First Grave on the Right introduces us to Charley and Reyes. We see how they meet and as we grow to love Charley, we also love Reyes. But he's always a part of her story. This time, it's his story.
In Brighter Than the Sun we learn Reyes' side of the story. We are brought into his nightmare with Earl. We see his love for his sister Kim. And we learn how Charley saved him from the nightmare that was his life.
If you're a fan of Charley's, and how could you not be, you'll love Reyes' story too.

Eighth Grave After Dark - Darynda Jones
Charley's back!!!
I love her.
If she were not a fictional character
we'd be buds!
She's crazy, sarcastic
and loves coffee.
Although in this 8th installment
she's pregnant and off the
caffeine.
Charley and her husband,
Reyes,
also known as Satan's son,
have taken refuge in an old convent.
The 12 Hellhounds
are after her
and her unborn baby.
This is the one place
they are all safe,
on sacred grounds.
But this is Charley.
You know she'll find trouble,
or does it find her?
Her step-mother,
who always mistreated her,
suddenly wants to make amends.
Reyes seems to be getting sick
and weak.
And then,
she's given a case.
A teen has gone missing.
And all this happens,
just as she's about to pop!

Seventh Grave & No Body - Darynda Jones
It took me a long time
to gobble this one.
But it was not due to the book,
but that I was uber busy.
A flight home from Dubai
gave me the time I needed
to catch up with Charley, Reyes,
Cookie and the gang.
The fun stuff included:
Cookie and Ubie are a couple.
And a cute one.
Osh, aka The Dealer
is a fun and intriguing new character.
I can't wait to see more of him.
Reyes pushes Charley to learn
more about her powers.
And then there's Jessica.
Dead, but not gone.
Will she continue to be a pest?
This time around,
Charley has to deal with a bunch of people
disappearing,
leaving behind suicide notes.
But they didn't write the notes.
She looks for a grave robber,
deals with the Twelve Hell Hounds
and learns the Vatican has been spying on her.
Oh, and then there's her dad.
He's gone missing.
Yes,
life with Charley is never boring!
Gotta love that girl!

Sixth Grave on the Edge - Darynda Jones
Oh Charley!
How I love you!
Sixth Grave on the Edge
has our favourite Grimm Reaper
on a new adventure.
She has a dead naked man
riding in her car.
(He's a departed.)
She's learning,
or trying to learn,
more about Mr Wong,
the departed hanging out in the corner of her living room.
Her newest client wants her to help get his soul back.
Yes his soul.
He sold it to a demon,
but now wants it back.
Which means she now has to deal
with this demon
tricking people out of their souls.
Oh,
and then there's the scared girl
who was abused.
Charley wants to find out what happened.
Yes Charley has her plate full.
On top of all this,
she has Reyes' proposal to answer,
she's looking into the 'kidnapping' of him
as a child.
Oh, she's also conspired with Cookie
to make her uncle jealous.
And in the end,
well,
in the end,
Charley leaves us with an
OMG!!

Fifth Grave Past the Light - Darynda Jones
I love Charley.
I believe,
if she were real,
we'd be awesome mates.
We both love coffee
and we both love Reyes.
I think
Fifth Grave Past the Light
is my favorite one to date.
Here,
our favorite Grimm Reaper
discovers her apartment is filling up
with dead blond women.
Twenty-seven women
to be exact.
Charley needs to figure out
where these women are buried
and who killed them.
Oh,
and let's not forget the arsonist.
Yes,
someone has been burning down vacant lots.
Charley suspects she knows who it is
but can she prove it?
Then there's the husband
of a client.
She wants Charley to prove her husband is cheating.
The husband isn't too happy with Charley.
Yes our dear friend
gets into a lot of trouble.
But we'd never take Charley
any other way!

Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet - Darynda Jones
Charley's back!!!!
I honestly think,
the biggest pull to this series,
is Charley herself.
If she were a real person
(Gasp! you mean she isn't)
I could totally see us hanging out together.
Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet
begins 2 months after
Charley has not left her apartment
in these 2 months.
She's addicted to home shopping
and is broke.
And then she gets a new client.
And she's still not speaking to her father
who had her arrested while she was in the hospital.
Who btw,
then shoots at her,
twice!
She has some demons from Hell
after her.
Oh,
and then there's Reyes.
Say it with me,
don't forget to add the sigh,
Reyes!
You really cannot get enough of
these two.
