Hitched - Dawn Rae Miller

If someone were to ask me
to name my favorite authors,
Dawn Rae Miller
would top it.
What makes her so great,
is her ability to get you to
feel her characters.
You love them.
You care about them.
You feel like they are your friends.

A few years back,
I read Crushed.
I fell in love with Fletch.
The way the story was written,
it came to an end.
I never thought they'd be more.

But there was.

Hitched
picks up 5 years later.
Ellie and Fletch have broken up.
They meet again after 2 years
to attend their friend's wedding.
Still hurt,
Ellie isn't sure she can handle the weekend.

This is a lovely story.
While they are not many surprises,
what captures you are the characters.
From chapter 2,
I could not put the book down,
as I hurt.
Ellie hurt,
and I hurt.
I needed to know she would get better.
I needed to read on.
When Ellie was happy,
I was happy.

It's an easy read.
With the summer coming,
if you need a good beach book,
this one's for you.

Prince Lestat - Anne Rice

I would have to say,
that Anne Rice is the one
that got me hooked onto vampires.
Lestat was my first vampire love.
I devoured the first 4 books
of the Vampire Chronicles.
I couldn't get enough.

And for this reason,
I eagerly awaited the release
of Prince Lestat

However,
I haven't read her books
in a long time.
Maybe I forgot what they were like.
Maybe I had high expectations.
But whatever it is,
I found Prince Lestat
a hard read.

We meet Lestat
and learn what he's been up to
since we last saw him in Memnoch.
We also learn what Marius,
Armand, Louis, Pandora
and other beloved vampires
have been up to.

Once we're all caught up
we begin to learn of a mysterious
Voice.
We now revisit all our vampire friends,
old and new,
and learn what they think of this Voice.

It's a good story.
I guess I was just hoping
for a great story.

Immortal - J.R. Ward

And another series comes to an end.

Immortal is the final installment in
The Fallen Angels series.
And what an ending it was.
I'll admit,
I cried a little at the end.

So far,
Jim, our fallen angel
is loosing to
Devina, our evil devil,
2:3.
He would have been up one,
but he exchanged a win in a previous book.
So now,
there are 2 souls left.
If Devina wins the next round,
Hell wins.
But who is this soul?
Will Jim be focused?
He lost the last round,
as he could not focus on the "game".
His mind was focused on Sissy.
Even Nigel was disappointed in him.

Immortal begins with Jim deciding he needs to get
Nigel back.
He decides he must enter Purgatory.
The first half of the book
you wonder who the soul is.
We all know Jim will be the last soul.
Jim spends the first half of the book
getting Nigel back,
working out his feelings for Sissy
and controlling his anger against Devina.

And even after he wins,
he's too focused on winning
and beating Devina
to realise there is another soul in play.

But really,
it's the last book with Jim.
Did you ever have any doubt he'd win?

Writer's Workshop - Books

October is National Book Month,
tell us about the best book you've read so far this year.

For the last couple of years,
I've challenged myself to read a certain number of books.
The challenge,
and keeping track of the books
are all on Goodreads.
So for MamaKat's prompt,
I decided to take a look at the
26 books I've read so far.

Now really,
I'm suppose to choose the best
book from these?
Yikes!
Not sure if I can.

The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer
is a children's book
that I could not put down.

Phoenix by Dawn Rae Miller,
was the end of an amazing YA trilogy.
And this one did not disappoint.

Baking Cakes in Kigali by Gaile Parkin
is the last book I read.
It's one I probably would never had read
had it not been recommended.
And I loved it!

I was chatting with a mate the other day,
commenting how I had a lot of reading to do
as it appears all the authors have chosen
October as the month
to release their new book.
In case you're looking for something to read
here are some great ones to look out for.
