The Angels' Share - J.R. Ward

I grew up watching Dynasty and Dallas with my mother. Which is why I'm probably drawn to this series. It has all the elements of the eighties soap operas; money, greed, betrayal, love addiction and murder.

Yes, murder.

What was a suspected suicide, now hints to murder. As the investigation deepens, Lane worries it may have been Edward. He's also trying to get to the bottom of the family's finances and what his father did. His divorce continues to be messy, his brother, Maxwell returns and his sister, Gin is marrying a scum of a man. Yes, the man has his hands full. It's a good thing he has Lizzie by his side.

Edward's story is what I loved the most in The Angels' Share. We see his softer side and our hearts break along with his.

Just like the first book, we're left hanging. Kind of like those 80s soaps. You know, the end of season cliffhanger. But instead of waiting until the end of summer, we have to wait a year to find out who really did it!

Kiss of a Demon King - Kresley Cole

While it sucks being sick, the upside is all you do all day long, is sit with a cup of tea and read.

And read is exactly what I've been doing for the last couple of days.

Meet Sabine, Queen of Illusions. Her main goal in life is to survive. After dying many times, and being brought back to life by her sister Lanthe, survive seems make sense. Unfortunately, she is also the half-sister to Omort the Deathless (like he cannot die). Sabine and Lanthe are at his service since he has given them a poison that causes a painful death. Asides from the antidote, the only way to stay alive is to take the poison continuously, which he provides, as long as they do what he says.

Omort's latest request, is for Sabine to capture and seduce Rydstrom, the demon king. But Sabine has plans of her own. She plans to use Rydstrom to help her over throw Omort, and gain her freedom.

Meet Rydstron, the deposed demon king. He is finally within reach of his goal, the killing of Omort and recapturing his throne. However, on his way to meet an accomplish for his quest, he is captured by Sabine and her illusions.

And so the battle of wits begins.

Will Rydstron escape? Will he seek revenge? Or will they realize they really have a lot more in common then meets the eye and work together? But, can they trust one another?








 

Seventh Grave & No Body - Darynda Jones

It took me a long time 

to gobble this one.

But it was not due to the book,

but that I was uber busy.

A flight home from Dubai

gave me the time I needed 

to catch up with Charley, Reyes,

Cookie and the gang.

The fun stuff included:

Cookie and Ubie are a couple.

And a cute one.

Osh, aka The Dealer

is a fun and intriguing new character.

I can't wait to see more of him.

Reyes pushes Charley to learn

more about her powers.

And then there's Jessica.

Dead, but not gone.

Will she continue to be a pest?

This time around,

Charley has to deal with a bunch of people

disappearing,

leaving behind suicide notes.

But they didn't write the notes.

She looks for a grave robber,

deals with the Twelve Hell Hounds

and learns the Vatican has been spying on her.

Oh, and then there's her dad.

He's gone missing.

Yes, 

life with Charley is never boring!

Gotta love that girl!

It was high time

I discovered first hand

This is a historical romance.

A period piece.

A lovely read.
