City of Bones - Cassandra Clare

Everywhere I look,
this book is sitting on display
at some bookshop.
I can take a hint.
It's meant for me to read.
And I'm ever-so-glad
I did.

Clary Fray is a teenager
living in Brooklyn
with her single mom
and hanging out with her best friend,
Simon.
Normal teen,
right?

Well,
one night Clary and Simon head off
to a club,
where Clary sees 3 other teens
kill another.
Only thing is,
no one else sees them.
And thus begins
Clary's introduction to the Shadowhunters.
They are not so bad,
they kill demons.

Soon after discovering the Shadowhunters,
Clary's mother is kidnapped.
With the help of her new friends,
Alec, Jace and Isabelle,
they learn that Clary's mom has been kidnapped
because she had hidden the Mortal Cup.

Clary must now figure out
how to save her mom,
keep the Mortal Cup away from evil
and keep her friendship with Simon.

And you thought she was an average
teenager.

The Happiness Project - Week 18

I took Ethan to the
We went a couple of years ago
and Ethan loved it.
So, since we're in the city,
why not go for another visit?

Currently,
the Science Centre
has a special exhibit.
Game On 2.0!
It's the history of the video game.
Which translates to....

Ethan playing a video game...

after video game....

after video game....

after video game...

after...
you guess it,
video game.

I,
meanwhile,
well..
I adore my Commodore
my Commodore 64!

Happiness is a flash of the past.

Graceling - Kristin Cashore

I've had this book
on my Kindle
for who-knows-how-long.
I never got around to reading it.
And when I finally did,
I couldn't remember what the story was about.
Which was cool.
You start reading a book
with no synopsis.
Everything is new.

Graceling takes place
in a fantasy world of seven kingdoms.
A handful of people are born
with unique skills,
called graces.
These graces cover a wide range of skills.
Katsa, the niece of King Randa,
has been grace with the ability to kill.
She is feared.
And she is used as a thug
by her greedy uncle.

Then Katsa meets Po.
He has been graced with the skill
of fighting.
He shows her that she is not a thug.
And together,
they set off on an adventure.

I loved this book.
It wasn't a OMG-I-can't-put-this-down book,
but it was exciting.
Each time you thought you knew something,
you learnt something new.

The Happiness Project - Week 17

For the last 2 years,
Ethan and I have been coming home for
the summer.
This means we are home
for Canada Day.
For the last 2 years,
we have gone to a
Toronto Blue Jays
baseball game
on Canada Day.
This year,
however,
we are in Ottawa.
For those of you
unfamiliar with Canada,
that would be the capital city!!!

We went to Parliament Hill.

Sat by the fire.

With no pennies around, what do people use to make wishes?
Hung out with the Mounties.

And had a fabulous time
with my brother.

Happiness is Canada Day
in Ottawa.

Spartan Frost - Jennifer Estep

Why is Gwen on the cover of
Spartan Frost?
This is Logan's book.
Ok, not quite a book,
a novella.
But it's his.
We need a picture of him.

But I digress.
Spartan Frost is book 4.5
in the Mythos Academy series.
It takes place shortly after
Logan has left Mythos Academy
and suffers nightmares from what happened.

This is his story.
It's his POV.
We see his fears,
and begin to understand who he is
a little better.

And it has a great lead in
to Midnight Frost
(where Gwen is once again a brunette).

The Sea of Monsters - Rick Riordan

I really enjoyed the first
Percy Jackson book
and it was such an easy read,
I thought I'd read another one
before I begin my summer courses.
Hmmm...
one of my courses is on
children's literature.
Perhaps this was research?

Well,
if I loved the first one,
I loved the second one.
I love how there's no fluff.
You get right into the story
and a fabulous new character.

Here,
Percy has,
almost,
survived his new school
without incident.
Almost.
The last day of school,
brings on a new adventure.
Camp Half-Blood has been attacked.
Zeus' daughter,
now a pine tree
that protects the camp
has been poisoned.
Only the Golden Fleece
can save the camp.
And while it should be up to
Percy to save the day,
Clarisse,
daughter of Ares,
is chosen.
But Percy is determined to save his friend,
Grover.
So, a new adventure is in store
for our favourite
half god.

The Happiness Project - Week 16

We're home!!!
Well Ethan and I are.
We arrived Sunday night.
We have a tad bit of jet-lag.
But we're home!!!!

And how does one celebrate
being back in Canada?
With Starbucks,
of course!

Happiness is being home
for the summer.
